What's a Netbook? A netbook is a smaller form of laptop. It is a portable computer that is designed for browsing the Internet and for using general applications like wordprocessing and spreadsheet work. Netbooks have a processor that is designed to sip at the battery and so will typically last for around 8-10 hours. Just don't expect your netbook to help you blaze through the latest games. Here's our top three, but if you have your eye on a particular one, check it out in our store below... powered by Amazon.

The Packard Bell Dot S/P-015 is the ideal starter and choice for a netbook. But don't think that you'll be missing anything. It has a 1.66GHz processor, 1GB of memory and a 160GB hard disk. It's quick and it's ready to do your bidding.

Pros
All of the above. Battery life is good, quoted at 7.5 hours, in reality you'll probably get around 3.5 hours of continuous use. It's really well specified for the price.

Cons
If you were planning to watch some video content, you may find that at times the Samsung will stutter.

Overall, it's a great netbook that's available in more colours and free delivery. It's more than suitable for editing, browsing the Internet, school work, music and more.
The Samsung N210 Plus is the one to choose if you want a netbook with the power to do more. It has a dual core 1.66GHz processor, 1GB of memory and a large 250GB hard disk. That dual core processor makes it more capable at doing tasks including video playback. It still won't be as fast as a laptop or desktop computer but it's a very capable netbook.

Pros
All of the above - and a long battery life. The dual-core processor is a worthwhile addition.

Cons
No significant cons!

Overall, it's another great netbook and one that you would also consider over a laptop if there is a need to keep weight and size down. Whilst 1GB of memory is good, you might consider upgrading to 2GB for improved performance.
The Sony Vaio M13M1 has an improved processor over our first two choices. It runs at 1.83GHz and so there is a slight benefit over the other two netbooks in our recommended choices. Otherwise, the specification is much the same, it has 1GB of memory and a 250GB hard disk.

Pros
All of the above. The faster processor has a slight edge over the single core 1.66Ghz variants. Sony design.

Cons
Comes with a lot of 'bloatware' that can slow the machine down. Uninstall any and all of the supplied trial software that you don't need. Battery life not as good as the Samsungs.

A well designed netbook that is functional. But you may not notice the increased speed of the processor. We'd have to say that you should choose the Sony only if the branding, design and price are to your liking.
