Backup.

So many people don't backup their computers! Why?

Cars break down and people cover themselves with Breakdown Cover but perhaps don't give much thought to what happens if their computer breaks down.

There are three elements that are at risk when a computer breaks down.

1. Data
Documents. That is letters, homework, research, notes, spreadsheets, presentations and more.

Images. Precious photos that were moved from the camera so that the camera has more room for more pictures.

Video. Equally precious video that may not be backed up anywhere else.

2. Programs
Programs like Microsoft Office, or Call of Duty, or any and all applications that you have purchased. When a computer breaks down, you may not have the disks the programs came on. And you may not have the original keys or serial numbers required to reinstall them again.

3. Operating System
This is the program that actually controls your computer. Your computer might run an operating system like Windows XP or Windows Vista or Windows 7. If you haven't got the disks and the serial number or key to reinstall it again then this represents yet another expense as well as a serious inconvenience.

Without a doubt, the worst thing of the three elements to lose is your data. And yet that can be protected free of charge, as long as you don't have more than around 2GB of data, by backing it up to the Internet.
