OK. So we were convinced that Apple would bring out a
7 inch version of the iPad. And I suppose that it was what
I wanted. I felt that the iPad was just a big iPhone and I
didn't want it then, and I couldn't see the need for one.
The iPad 2 has changed my thinking. And those of a lot
of people we spoke to who didn't go for the original iPad.
It's still 10 inches. But the whole package feels smaller
than the iPad, and now the iPad 2's screen somehow
feels smaller.
But I think that what's happening to me is that I've
developed a need for a tablet. I now need to read books
and books on the iPhone are an OK experience but that
screen is just a bit too small. I would consider a Kindle -
and a Kindle is a lot cheaper - but I have an investment in
iPhone Applications and it doesn't seem to make sense
to buy a device that effectively only does one thing well.
This is probably the same reason why typewriters don't
sell in the numbers they used to.
I tried running Kindle on my laptop. But the boot-up time
for the laptop (as well as the logon process) doesn't
compare well to the instant-on of the iPad. I can easily
lose the mood to read and so the iPad 2 should get me
reading quickly.
I didn't queue up for the iPad 2, but the online order is in.
Within 2 or 3 weeks time, I'll know if the plan worked and
I'll read more. Or whether I've wasted more time by
browsing the Internet..
The iPad 2 - Not what we expected...!
This is the the new BlackBerry Bold Touch, or the 9900.
Why is your old BlackBerry obsolete? This one has NFC built in
for an exotic feature that's not available on other phones as yet.
NFC is related and compatible with RFID, the tech that's inside
your Oyster Card. It could mean that you'll tap your BlackBerry on
an Oyster reader to gain access to the London Underground.
You've probably seen that Barclays advert where a bloke rides a
high-speed roller coaster attached to buildings, on his way to
work. Instead of zooming past a shop on your roller coaster ride
and tapping a card to pay for your lunch, you could do the same
with your new BlackBerry. Let's just hope you don't drop the
phone.
What else? Well, the screen is a touch screen. The processor is
faster, one of the fastest available. It has a HD video recorder.
So, need any more reasons as to why your BlackBerry is
obsolete? Well, the new BlackBerry runs BlackBerry 7 OS and
this OS is definitely not compatible with your old device.

Fractal Design's Define Mini
computer case
We've just discovered this cool case and it seems to be just what we've
been looking for! It's a case designed for a MicroATX motherboard and
will result in a compact tower computer with lots of style and built-in
features.
Minimalist in design, the inside of the case has plenty of sound absorbing
material to make for a quiet computer. We think that this could be the new
standard case that we will use to build our bespoke helpcomputing
systems. We'll be testing this soon. We'll give it a good workout and let
you know what we think!
We see too that Fractal Design have a larger design, the Define R3 and
we may yet offer this case as an upgrade option for all those existing
computers out there..
